Default Pro Tools Freezes When Opening Sessions

When i go to open up two of my larger session files, Pro tools will load all of the tracks and inputs, but freezes when it gets to ''opening overview files''..I have never had this problem before and its only these two files. I have 2 other smaller ones that open up just fine.

I have tried opening up the backups, but they are very incomplete compared to what I had, they lag way behind when playing, and they're missing alot of files and even 1 track. For what reason I have no idea.

Another thing. After being frustrated, I'd began to shut everything down including the Fast Track Ultra 8R. When I did that, Pro Tools continued to finish loading but only to freeze once again cause well, I had just turned off the 8R.

I dont really even know where to begin. I've heard it could be the settings. I've heard it could be some plugins.

I'm Running Vista 64 bit. Pro Tools 7.4 cs3..Thanks in advance.

I have exactly the same problem only I am running a Mac Pro.
PT8 LE CS2 OSX 10.5.7.

Session saved fine, I shut down and came back later on and could not open anything. Trashed preferences and still no go.
Usually it freezes on opening overview but sometimes does it while saying it is "Activating Mix L/R"

With me my session is very large and mainly using UAD2 plugins (75% CPU usage on 2 quad cards). If I disable the UAD cards and open the session the Mac just shuts down and tells me to push the power button and restart the machine.
Having to go back to an old backup just doesn't seem right given I have saved regularly but now find despite that the system wont open my saved files.

Digi please help

Sadly, you guys aren't alone.

I got the same problem here. Actually, now I can get the session to load up completely, but then it instantly freezes when i try to do anything, even moving the mouse.

I don't have this problem with the session backups, however - they work fine, as do every other session.

I've trashed all the DAE and Digidesign preferences, and the later WaveCache in the session folder. I haven't tried uninstalling/reinstalling PT, but I did update to PT7.4cs10 from cs9, and that did not work, obviously.

I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling...

Just tried uninstalling/reinstalling PT, and the session now works. So go ahead and give that a try guys.

As long as you are running Vista 64, expect random instability, it is part of the experience. That’s the reason Digi tells us to wait for 64 bit support.

Try creating a new session and importing data one track at a time to reveal the offending corrupted file.

You also may want to: Try creating a new session and importing data one track at a time to reveal the offending corrupted file.

Also it may be a good idea to post this on the Mac side of the forum.

I deleted the individual plug-in sub-folders inside the plug-in folder for the session that wouldn't load. Then I deleted the actual plug-in folder for the session. I clicked onto the PT icon for the once failed session and it opened up perfectly. I've been trying to open this session for a few weeks and I finally got it opened! YES!!!!

Holding the shift key while opening a session will make all plugs innactive. Thus making troubleshooting easier. If you get it to open this way try enabling them w at a time to find the problem plug.
