Default Audio via Firewire 003 into PT10

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to route (record) de audio coming from my iMac and playing via Firewire through my 003 rack (8ch) directly into Pro Tools 10.
Connecting the Alt CR outputs to e.g channels 5/6 and pressing the AltCR knob doesn't work.

Connecting the physical output of the iMac to the Aux-in of the 003 and pressing the "Aux-in to 7/8 works fine but the quality (hiss etc) probably caused by the cable of something else is not as good as expected.

Hope someone is able to inform me,
many thanks.

You are trying to get audio from one application into Pro Tools from another application?
You could look at ReWire or Sound Flower depending on what you are trying to do.

you need to make an aggregate device that is made of both the 003 and Sound Flower

wait, 003 doesn't aggregate my mistake
I was thinking MB3

You mean by making a aggregate device that I can put in the playback engine so that I can also monitor the audio from my Mac ? That's at the moment not possible using soundflower in the playback engine.

Hi
Sound flower is a perfect way to do this, but just for the fun of coming up with solutions: you could also get the adapter for optical digital out for your imac, and connect that with an optical cable to the optical input of the 003(which you have to set to spdif)
Now you should be able to record from the mac into the 003
;-)

Ok great so they will show up as inputs 9 and 10 ?

Do you have a link to the adapter ?

Many thanks

I dont have a 003 myself, but first 8 are analogue, optical starts at 9/10 and rca is 17/18 so it is either 9/10 or 17/18 but you can check that in your io window.
The adapter can be found in electronic and probably also in pc shops and is around 5 euro. It is a little plastic adapter that is een extended minijack with on the other side a tos link connector. So you also need an optical cable.
Google minijack to toslink adapter and you'll find plenty options. But you can also visit your local Electronics dealer ;-)

Thanks for all the info. I found already a shop that sells the mini adapter.
So I'm almost set to start recording from my iMac

Many thanks to all of you, much appreciated.
