Default A7V333 vs. A7N8X, help

from what i (newly) understand, the a7v333 is supported by digi, whereas the newer a7n8x is not.

for my new system, i am planning on getting the barton 3000 AMD with A7N8x.

if a combo of A7V333 and XP AMD IS supported, should i reconsider this? is it likely to be "supported soon?"

and if they dont "support" a given board, does that mean i might not receive tech support if the problem is mobo related, or not at all?

i just joined the forum today and already am i very excited by the wealth of info here. i look forward to many geeked out moments with you all...
thanks guys and i cant wait to post my big "help me really configure my stuff right" post...

Ben,
You already have a great setup. You could upgrade to the XP2100+ like I did with one of my systems and have a great PTLE setup. Should be able to run over 32 Tracks on the Davec test easily with over 160 simultaneous effects. Upgrade would cost you about 70.00. Then if you find you need more power get the new Clawhammer processor due out this fall. YOu should have more power with the XP2100+ than you will need right now. Just a thought. The A7V333-X or X/L is the motherboard I recommend for the Barton XP3000+. Or again you can save yourself alot of money by getting the XP2100+ and overclocking it on the A7V333-X to 2Ghz if you need that much power. Upgrade would cost you about 160.00 for motherboard and processor. It is one of the best performing motherboards for PTLE right now. The A7M266 doesn't allow overclocking without modifications that you probably don't want to hear about.

ahhh, allen very good insight. considering the price/performance increase, itd definitely be better than gettin the barton, to spring for the xp u speak of.

a. i have pc2100 RAM. should i get newer ram with the new mobo?
b. i would be very happy with 210 simul plugs.
c. i use heavy vst1 usage- kontakt, absynth.
d. also use reason and Project5 at the same time.
e. lotsa midi

as far as the aardvark, its real solid! it is the only real high end card ive had, so i dont have much of a comparison basis. it never crashes, always works. ive never used the mic pre's before, but i hear they sound pristine.

cheers

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I'd stick your existing ram in there first before buying anymore. Should have at least 512MB.

ok. so an XP 2100 "acts" like it is 2.1Ghz, right, even though its actual speed is less?

heres a comparison, prices from newegg.com

option 1
AMd athlon XP2400 $105 266 fsb
AV7333 x/L $ 90
t.$195
option 2
AMD Barton XP2800 $225 333 fsb
A7N8X deluxe $140
$365
. how much of a performance oncrease will i really feel from a fsb boost of 66mhz?
my game power. i want power to use heavy plugs, and simultaneous programs.

what else do you know about whats comin out next? it might be best for me to buy amobo with 400 fsb capabilities, and buy the best value of a 266 or 333 CPU now, then i can get a fast 400 fsb CPU in fall or whenever, and not have to get a new mobo...thoughts?
