Sends and latency
Can any body tell me the best way to use plug-ins without screwing up my mix with latency problems. I was told to use a send for my reverb and keep it 100% wet and that should cause no problems. I asked about compression and was told to use the output of each channel to go to the compressor. It worked, but every time I make one adjustment to the fader my comp is completely off. any suggestions? and does it matter what order I put the sends in? a novice with a TDM system.

Re: Sends and latency
Your always gonna have latency problems using plug-ins no matter how you try to set them up. What i do is use the time adjuster plug-in to compensate for latency. I usually stay away from very high latency plug-ins unless i really need them. What i do is get the mix as close as possible with my processing (tdm plugs), then across all the channels except for the master fader, ill insert the time adjuster plug-in on the last insert of the channel. I go to my fader and check the latency for all channels and once i find the channel with the highest latency, ill adjust my other channels with the time adjuster plug to be the same latency with the channel that has the highest ammount. It's a bit of work, but it rids the mix of phasing problems you seem to get when you got alot of plugs with different latency specs going on. As to how to insert plugs, i use compressor plugs usually on the channel itself, a reverb plug i would set up on an aux track, you can make the signal either pre or post fader. Just a matter of what your doin. Time adjuster has been the best for me though, this way you dont have to worry about how your settin up or latency issues.
