Default Kontakt 2 and PT: What\'s up??!!

I have been running the East West EWQLO XP Platinum library which uses the NI Kompakt player. No problems, other than the library taxes my computer. I have a dual 2.7 G5 PPC running PT HD3 7.3.1.

I 'upgraded' to Kontakt 2 because I heard it was way more efficient than the Kompakt player. Kontakt 2 has NOT been cool. Everytime I load an instrument into K2, I get about a 3 second delay! If I go into the PT Set Up window/Play Back Engine and change the H/W buffer size, longer or shorter, things are fine. UNTIL I load another instrument into K2. Same exact thing happens. Crazy! After doing this for about 5 minutes, all of the sudden I get NO sound. I have to go to the PT mixer and change the K2 input to any other input and then things are fine. Uh, until it happens again 5 or 10 minutes later. Of course I am constantly having to go and keep changing the H/W buffer size as well.

Any suggestions before I throw away Kontakt 2?

Of course NI tech support hasn't answered me at all in the last 3 or 4 days.......

Thanks.

Hi,

with the same configuration, Kontakt2 and Battery3 are running smoothly here.
Never had these problems.
NI recommends Buffer size 512 and I have to be on 1 processor/99%.

Apart from that have you checked the General Troubleshooting?

I remember there were problems with the playback engine settings related
to an older MDW-Plugin version.

Cheers,

Martin

PS: The NI-Support over here in Germany has always been very helpful and easy to reach.

Thanks Martin. I did try all that. I would hate to think I would have to move to Germany to hear from these guys....

On the track that you have the K2 plug-in instanciated, make sure you have a valid analog input selected on the track.

I am definitely aware of that. What's strange is everything is okay till I load a new instrument and then I get either the delay OR no sound. When I get no sound I have to set the track to a different analog input and things are fine for a few minutes......

Anyone else have any ideas?

this plugin runs best using DFD

otherwise it uses a ton of RAM
open activity monitor ( utilities folder ) and look at available Memory when you have this problem it is more than likely less than a couple hundred meg's
available

when you experience the delay open the the window "playback engine" and close it again. Now your problem is gone. You may also just toggle the input on the channel and it will take care of the problem... NI Support advised me NOT to use RTAS if I had the possibility of using AUs or VSTs - RTAS is a sick baby for VI's and you'll get a lot more performance out a AU... or VST

I assume you are only refering to NI RTAS VI's!!

I am using RTAS VI's every day and NOT getting problems, My only rule is NOT to use NI RTAS plugs which i have found to be a painfull experience.

Regarding the 3 second latency after loading a new patch - Same here. Same with everyone I know who's using Kontakt2/PT. Same thing in Akoustik Piano too...
Quick workaround is to quickly hit the spacebar to start-stop PT each time you load a new patch. These seems to clear somekind of 'buffer' (or whatever).

Itดs been a while but I do recall that some of the problems with RTAS VIs went away after I extended RAM to 6,5 GB.

I didnดt want to advise you to move to Germany, but calling them might be an option Iดm sure their english is sufficient. Hereดs a number: 0049 30/61 10 35-0

Cheers,

Martin
