Default MIDI records two notes when playing one

When I record using a MIDI track in PTLE 6.4 I always get one note of a very short length while the full note does not show up on the display until after I released the keys on my M-Audio Keystation pro 88. When I play the MIDI track back, I get a very quick attack and then an unnatural decay, like a sfz notes (loud initial attack followed by an unnatural soft dynamic for the note's duration). I've tried using the same board to input notes into Garageband and I have had no problems. Any suggestions?
