-7401 error? what is it?

I have some sessions from several months ago that were done on 7.4. When I try to open some on my new PT8 machine, several plugins are greyed out and if I try to open these plugins, I get a popup with this -7401 error. Even after I remove the plugins, save and close; when I reopen, I can't choose those same plugins even though they still work fine in other sessions. Any ideas? This is not happening to ALL old sessions, just a handful(and some of the old sessions will cause PT to quit instantly while loading, but I can reopen PT without rebooting....) very curious!

Exactly what plug-ins? What versions?

The 2 that have done this are Waves Q parametric(mostly the 4 band) and my Bomb Factory Pultec EQ1-A. Both of these work in most any other session. I can forgo the Waves plugin but I'll die without my Pultec(or at least get very ill). Remember, they both work in several other sessions. My next thing to try will be importing the consolidated audio into a new session.

I’ve seen this kind of behavior in Waves before, but rarely. Never in the Bomb Factory Pultec plugs. With Waves the new session idea has worked for me. When waves has done this it usually migrates to all the Waves plugs that I have installed. I have always felt it was some kind of GUI issue. And I wonder if your Pultec issue is some kind of clue to this. Are you on V6 Waves? I’m going to bring up some older sessions with both of these guys on them and see if I can push it to breaking.

...and the error seems to have to do with permissions and is an RTAS thing. Most of what I’ve seen on this came IK or BFD. perhaps more of a VI issue but still a bit of a mystery. There are of course registry editors that claim to fix this but I don't put much faith in that. I could be of more help if you were to ask “how do I enable record”.

Well, its a head scratcher anyway. I will play around with it some more but hopefully I won't lose any sleep(and hopefully these older sessions will not need to be resurrected). I'm pretty much ready to dump the Waves package anyway as I am using it less and less.

Ya know, I go way back with Waves, and only recently I’ve been thinking it might be coming close to time to cut the cord. Even some of the Digi supplied plug-ins that I have snubbed for so long are actually not that bad now that I’ve used them on a serious level. I still will need Waves for compatibility with other studios but that doesn’t mean I have to initiate their use. I do like the L3 limiters though. I wonder who makes a multiband limiter that works as well.

This is typically associated with PACE - do you have the latest PACE drivers installed?

I think I do but I will go ahead and attempt an update anyway. As I said, the same plugins work fine in other sessions. I'll let you know if I make any discovery and thanks for the advice. As for another multiband limiter, I hear good things about the Roger Nichols plugs(RND).
