Default Access Violation when opening sessions

Hello,

I've got a problem with PT 7.3.1 on windows xp. I've got a session that I've done a lot of work on that will not open. It gets to various states in the progress bar but always gives me and access violation and either crashes or just will not allow me to get past the access violation warning.
This has happened to me before with previous versions. It seems that after opening and working on a session a few times, it decides that it doesn't want to have it anymore. Anyone else encounter this?

Are you sure that any plugins in your session are 7.x compatible?

Have you done a "Disk Cleanup" on the audio drive at all? Disk Cleanup on the audio drive is definitely NOT recommended as it tends to compress some files and Pro Tools is not capable of dealing with compressed files. An indication that a file or folder is compressed is if it's name in Windows Explorer is blue instead of black.

Hmm... Fairly certain that all my plugs are 7.3 compliant. I will check to be sure though.

I haven't done disk cleanup on my audio drive, and I checked to ensure that it is not compressed. Eh?

The Plugin Compatibility Matrix should help determine if you're running the right versions of your plugins.

Other than that, we would need more information about your system to help you troubleshoot further. There are instructions at the end of the General Troubleshooting thread for posting system details, and you may want to check some of the other suggestions there as well.
