Default \"Access violation occurred\" when opening a session

Hello,

So i've sortof a nasty problem. I have a large session that will not open. Most of the time it gives me that message and crashes. Most of the backups do the same but will sometimes open and just not play anything, giving me the access violation. Every once and a while it will say that the access violation occurred while "translating audio paths".
I have tried importing the session data into a new session but it gives me the same message. I have also tried disabling services and messing around with device drivers. Again though, it is only this one session. everything else opens fine. Any suggestions?

man....this is some bull. I just got the same error when I tried to save a mix I was working on. PT just shutdown. I reopened PT and tried to reopen the session......but the previously save session file is gone.......gone I say. as in not in the session folder. I usually tried to save a working session every few minutes or so.(CRTL + S) and have never had a problem. I still have the original non-mixed sesson...but I sucks that I lost the mix I was working on. Time is money.

The session was running great for about an hour. I inserted Phasescope...played with it for about 30sec or so and up popped the error.

That's not good either. Does anyone have any ideas why this might happen at the opening of a session? Again, it might have something to do with translating audio paths? Workarounds?
I found that one of the backups (a much older one) does open without the violation error so I've spent the last several hours consolidating all of the tracks and importing them into a new session. Has anyone had this problem and discovered a cause?

I have seen this problem before and it is usually caused by plug ins. It happened to me when I was trying out one of the Digi demo plugs, and when it expired, I got the error. I just removed the plugs from my folder and wham, session ran again.

Now a few words of advice. TURN ON AUTO SAVE. I set mine to save about once every 3 mins. Works like a charm and has saved my a** at least once.
Secondly, use "SAVE SESSION AS" while you work to keep track of changes to a session and to be able to work backwords if need be (trust me, you will have to)

Hopefully your access violation is a simple fix like mine was.

I save (ctrl + S) like every 5 minutes. But here's the thing. I open the 6.x file played with it for a while, then saved it as a 7.x file. I reopened the 7.x file played with it a bit more. resaved it. Now I go to start mixing.. saving about every 5 minutes for an hour or so. I got things balanced pretty well.......inserted the Phasescope plug...and Bam.. the error pops up. PT shuts down. I restart the computer, reopen PT and the 7.x file is gone, as if i deleted it off out of the session folder. PT also created about 5 folders with lony crazy names, inside of the session folder. WTF???

There are several possible causes. One that gets me now and then is that Windows XP sometimes flags a file as Read Only. This can happen when importing audio using something like iTunes, WMP, Real Player, and so on. Thankfully, the solution is very simple:

·Select all folders than contain audio files that PT uses
·Right click, choose Properties
·By the word "Attributes," uncheck the Read-only box
·Click Apply

If this doesn't solve it for you, do a DUC-wide search for +Access +violation.

I got the same error today, and got the same error the other day which I ended up losing a whole mix session just like you did. I tried the whole "unchecking read only" but then when I go right back to the folder it's highlighted again? WTF is the point of making changes if it just forces it to go back to the same thing?

I unchecked read only, just to go back to the same folder where it's highlighted yet again.
