Default Re: How to Midi Learn a track's pan?

Early versions of PT allowed mapping MIDI to pan and faders. But it went out at some point. I think I remember it being in 3.1. It wasn't as useful as you might expect because of the low resolution inherent to MIDI CC. 0-127 just doesn't cut it when the parameter you're trying to control has 201 steps (pan) or more (fader). It's too crude. It's a shame the designers of the MIDI spec didn't allow for a variable number of bits of res per CC. Even 10 bits is sufficient for faders. But it's water under the bridge now.

There are some nice little hardware and software controllers that work the pans and faders in PT. If you happen to have an iDevice of some sort, V-Control is the cheapest option. I'm also quite fond of my Faderport, which isn't all that much more money.
