Default G4 1.25 powerbook/Digi002 users...

How have your systems been working? Does the 1.25 PB run well with Digi002?

If so, what OS seems to work?

What kind of performance are you getting? Are you able to use a lotta plugs on lots of tracks?

I posted results from a moderate session a few weeks ago. I can't remember the details, but it was impressive. I never did the DaveC test, as I don't anticipate doing that sort of recording with the lappy. Sorry I can't be more specific about exactly how many tracks+plugs at the moment, but it should be easy to find that thread.

Yeah. I do location recording on a g3 ibook, so I'm sure that the new powerbook is ample for that.

The question is this: when will the new powerbooks be good enough to be the ONLY solution, and truly unchain us from the desktop. Sure, we can record with it, but can we mix 10 tracks of drums, 4 bass, 6 guitars, vocals, auxillaries and effects without constantly worrying about CPU and architecture speeds? Can we then bounce that to a stereo mix?

I've looked high and low for DaveC's on the new powerbooks, but all I get are vague speculations. Some are even claiming that the new PB's are SLOWER than the old ones. Maybe I'm not typing the right keywords into my searches?

If I could record, mix, and master a full rock band on a powerbook, that would be my next purchase and not a g5, just for a portable all-in-one solution. It may be nice to throw in the occasional Reason or Ableton track.

Any help here?
