Default Surround SSL G bus comp emulation

The never ending search.

Does anyone know of a SSL G bus plugin that supports surround? Not looking for alternatives but a real SSL G bus emulation that supports multi channel natively (not multi-mono).

Ironic that I can’t find one since the original hardware was a QUAD bus comp.

FWIW I still use the official SSL Bus Comp when working in stereo. I preferred it when working in stereo compared to the Waves SSL. It sounded both cleaner and punchier, but I'll admit that's totally subjective and could have been influenced by the brand name.

I had a different occasion to compare the Waves to Impact. I got them to match almost identically. But by ear not by setting. So that started me investigating Impact in surround. I usually only tickle it 1-3 dB.

The McDSP sounds good and is more configurable if that matters.

I am a lover of the UAD SSL G bus comp. It sounds like the original hardware to my ears. The knob positions are even very close for that first guess. I "grew up" on SSL 4000E's/G's and 6000's in NYC. The Waves is a good sounding compressor but a little more "polite". A very usable sound but not as aggressive as the original or the UAD and the controls do not match the real deal or the UAD.

I have no experience with the McDSP.

Can't say I know of anything specific myself, but given that Atmos is becoming hugely popular, I think its just a matter of time before developers start adding support for this in many of their standard plugins.

Waves already has put out Spherix, quite a useful mastering compressor and limiter. I imagine more will come. With enough people making requests we may even see the likes of the SSL Comp supporting Atmos.

It's no SSL but Signum has their multichannel compressor/limiter "Skye Dynamics". It supports 7.1.4

Toneboosters also.

Avid Impact did the job on this particular 5.1 mix. Close enough to the sound I was looking to recreate from the previous stereo mix.
