Richard -

THANKS for the tips! Maybe May isn't the month to book the convention after all.

I'm trying to avoid the summer months, as so many of us have travel commitments already, so maybe April would be better.

By the way, many of you are bringing up great points about lodging and travel arrangements. There's nothing to say we can't all motel 6 it (or whatever) and meet up at the meeting hall for the events, I was just thinking that we might all want to stay at one hotel and see if we could book a group rate. It's cool with me either way. Easy is great, but cheap is better!

Questions for those of you that live in Memphis. Is it an easy city to get around in? well laid out, taxis easy to catch, bars, clubs & other places of interest within walking distance, etc.

Camp DUC... Man, this is getting better by the minute. April sounds good. And I would love to attend, but it all depends on $$$ I have at said time. $100 - $250 a night for room would almost kill me there near the upper end of the spectrum.
But, I would love to get out for a weekend.

BRB,

I won't be able to make it. I am planning to
upgrade from a home-studio to a "real" studio
this year and need all the money I have for that.

Regards,
Pieter

How about a tent in Roy's backyard? That would save $100. Then it would be the cost of food and beer. Maybe Roy could feed us too!!!

How about getting Digi to host us, they put up the meeting location, PA system, Display/convention facilities, we pay for our lodging/feeding/parking etc.

I think before we settle on location, lets get a registry going to see how many people would attend, these numbers may help us convince Digi to step in. My guess should be mid to late summer, this allows for everyone to get their pennies in order and vacation time. So add lets start another string named DUCKERS CONVENTION REGISTRY. Please just add your name and city were you live, nothing else.

I live in Miami, but I think the best location for it to be cost effective for most of us would be Atlanta, Ga.

Why?
It is the central hub for most major airline. I believe at about any given time you can get a plane ticket round trip from anywhere to Atlanta for about $150.-$250 round trip.

In addition to that there are many discount hotels in Atlanta with decent but small rooms for as little as $50 a night. One good example is "Microtel". The name says it all. For those of us not familiar with "Microtel"... It is a relatively new chain of new buildings that offer very clean, but very small rooms. I have gotten a room at some of their locations for as little as $35 a night. If I had to choose a Holiday Inn over Microtel, I would choose Microtel every time.

It is very easy to find a place for us all to meet in Atlanta. There are a number of (rental) boardrooms for traveling businessmen that make presentations. They are usually equipped with some sort of P.A./micing system, and a video projector. In fact I believe there are boardrooms for rent in Atlanta airport.

Yes there are stripclubs, yes there are nightclubs, and yes there is fantastic dinning in Atlanta.

Just my 2db.

I live in the Memphis area and Northwest has a hub there. AmericaWest airlines is starting service to Memphis in like Feb, Airtrans from the East coast. Also Memphis has a huge bunch of casinos like 25 mins south of the city where rooms can be had durning the week for $30-$50, $50-$80 on the weekends. They would be glad to help with meeting space and such if you brought enough people. Food's cheap and liquor is pretty much free. I work at one of them, so I can check and see what they have to offer.
