Default Re: Fire Wire drives

i use firewire drives on my mac all the time. this is rock solid stuff... i can edit video and what not... on the PeeCee i cant say the same. firewire capture of video is fine, but the pc lacks some of the firewire love that apple gives. just go with them drive carts and ata-100 ibm drives. i guess maxtor has a 7200rpm 80 gigger too.. but for bang and buck and brand, i go with the 75 gb ibm. i have used only ibm drives for a while and beaten the tar out of them. they keep giving the love though... i bet that i could get fine performance out of a firewire drive out of protools 001 on the pc. first buy an external firewire drive case (ADS makes a good one for a hundred bucks) and stick a nice and fast IBM drive in it. there you go. that is why i get good performance out of my rig. use good parts. the maxtor drives are only 5400rpm and all that other stuff is crap. i bet the proMax (www.promax.com) firewire drives work good too..,.
