Default Kontakt crashing PT HD 12.4 - help?

hi all- at a studio now working on a session w/ Komplete Ultimate + PT HD 12.4. is on a silver tower Mac Pro. OS X 10.8.5, HDX rig.

certain NI plugs seem to crash PT immediately upon a midi note triggering.

seems to be primarily (or entirely) Kontakt related, and only certain Kontakt instruments.

Studio Drummer is fine.

Rise + Hit crashes always.

Session Strings Pro crashes sometimes.

the simpler stuff (Factory Library, Retro Machines, etc) is all fine.

any ideas? tried disabling memory server. tried disabling multicore in the Kontakt preferences.

is a pain in the ass- client is present and we're trying to get work done....

thanks in advance.
