Default How to change Pro Tools keyboard

Hi all,

I come from Media Composer, Where you can very simply re-map any key you'd like on your keyboard.

Are you able to re-map your Pro Tools keyboard on windows?

Thanks in advance

Not that I am aware of. Some think this is a shortcoming of PT, but others(myself included) think its better because we can sit down on any PT rig anywhere in the world and all the key commands work the same. Of course, there may be a 3rd party utility to make this happen(I've never gone looking)

Oh seriously?!

Not good...

As I mentioned, I sit in front of Avid Media Composer every day. Media composer allows you to customize your keyboard, and then export your "user settings" to an external USB stick which you can import to any Media Composer system anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds.

There isn't a "one size fits all" keyboard for everyone on earth!

Many thanks for pointing this out :)

Pro Tools shortcuts are carved in stone. Pro Tools was born by Digidesign. Avid bought them in 1995. For a very long time, and even mostly today, Pro Tools and Avid's video software are cousins - and not even kissing cousins. Plus Pro Tools has to maintain as much backward compatibility and "sameness" as possible for their large, post customers. And I agree with albee, I'm happy the shortcuts are common and don't change.

However, venture into the world of AutoHotkey and make you're own mappings.

You can't do it natively in PT.
Some of us who come from other DAW's like to be able to remap key commands.

Soundflow allows you to do this- it is really excellent.
I basically replicate a lot of my Logic key commands on top of Pro Tools.

I work much faster because of this.
Yes, I know could just learn them.
I could do a lot of things.

:)

Funny, I've done just the opposite, altering as many Logic key commands as I can to match Pro Tools. Running PT on Windows, on a MacBook Pro (with the shorter keyboard), and Logic, my brain gets twisted in knots.

Some of us have seen this with Avid MC many many moons ago and dreamed it would be implemented in Pro Tools. The key part here is it is User based and not the system user but within MC. So it can easily be switched to default or import your own.

Yes it can sort of be done with external tools. I use Keyboard Maestro. But it would be so great to have it built in.
