PT8 to PT9 crossgrade MBox 3 help

Hi,

I am unsure what I need to do here can someone help?

I have registered my MBox 3 using the yellow card that came inside the box. This had a reg id and a serial number.

My question is whther this also means I have registered protools 8 and so am therefore eleigable for the cross grade?

OR should I be rgistering the software too seperately and if so where is the info (I only seem to have the yellow card).

One more question - when I cross grade I have an to buy and ilok too - is this correct? Or will the cross grade include the ilok? I have an old blue ilok from when I used a mac years agoo with a 001. I am on pc now Is that ilok redundant or can I use that?

The cross grade requires the hardware serial number.
Yes you need an iLok and you can use the old blue one you have.

I am about to buy the crossgrade and have the following question: What happens if I have to install PT 9 at a later stage again. Will it then suffice to plug in the ilok and install PT from the crossgrade-disks or do I then have to pull out my old mbox install PT 8 first and then the crossgrade. Does someone know how that works? (The reason I ask is that I would like to sell my Mbox once I have installed the crossgrade...).

Pro tools 9 has a full installer. No need to install 8 at all. In fact its probably better to uninstall 8 all together before installing 9 to minimize any problems.

There is no such thing as a crossgrade from Protools LE software. There is only a crossgrade offer from LE hardware.

Since, as mentioned, the Pro Tools 9 Crossgrade for LE uses the hardware serial number, there is no "software crossgrade to 9", only a path using your hardware. You can only do 1 crossgrade for each device you own. So after crossgrading, if you sell the unit it will not be worth as much do to it not being upgradeable.

When you get the 9 crossgrade it will come with a full installer as well as an upgrade, so you don't need to install 8 at all. With LE, you can still use 8 as long as you have your interface, and 9 uses an iLok license.

As mentioned there is no upgrade it's only a full installer.
It's called a crossgrade since the price is based on you owning specific Avid/Digidesign hardware.
This is the reason you have to use the serial number from your hardware when registering.
It also means that if you sell the hardware the new owner will not be able to use it to get the discounted price of the crossgrade.
PT9 installation is in no way tied to or related to a previous installation of PT8 or any other version of PT for that matter.
