Mbox 2 firmware update fails

I have an Mbox 2 (regular, not mini or pro or micro) running firmware version 1.24. I found the firmware update on the Avid site, and when I run it it can check the firmware version and report it back to me. But when I click Update Firmware, it croaks, saying the firmware download failed. I figured the firmware wasn't actually in the utility because it's so tiny.

At any rate, I only have Windows 7 available to me. Is there a way to update the firmware without Windows XP?

Not sure about with the mBox but with the 002 the firmware update was tied to the version of PT running.
It was not a case of you should be running the newest firmware, it was a case of you should be running the matching firmware.
If the mBox is the same it could be that your version of firmware is correct for the version of PT you are running.
The 002 would prompt you to update the firmware if it was needed.
Were you prompted to update your firmware or did you try it just because you found it was available?

I'm running 8.0.5 with the current drivers and all that. I updated because I saw it was available and I'm affected by the DAT locking bug that the FW update addresses. I didn't know about the firmware update until I ran into the issue this week. According to this document, it's available for all versions of Pro Tools LE that the Mbox 2 supports.

It's not the end of the world. It was just a DAT deck I got cheap and wanted to monkey around with.
