Holy S***T 8.04b is multi client!

As I sit here typing this, I have a 42 track session on a USB drive playing back (with 6 versions of Eleven) and eq and comp plug ins galore. Funny thing is though, I also have a myspace page playing back through the Mbox mini! I am not sure if this is supported but I don't think so. I can play my pro tools session, and the myspace page and they both play through my headphones plugged into my mbox mini!

Perhaps Avid has been working behind the scenes

IIRC the MAudio Micro with Essentials is multiclient.

Is this XP or Vista/Win7? I beleive the newer MS audio driver model supports multiclient were as XP did not. I might be wrong there though.

Yes, I noticed this back when I first went with 8.0.4b with W7/64, everything worked.

Like I told you earlier Kris... Protools can do it all these days. Who needs multiclient drivers when the workspace window doubles as an mp3 player? And media composer 5 will make an excellent dvd player!

What is this 8.0.4b you speak of? I have 8.0.3cs2 and cant find anything later, can someone point me to it so I can check it out?

8.0.4b is the beta driver for use with Windows 7.

If I'm recalling correctly (with a little help from my fellow techs) -

Prior to 7.4 Mbox 2 series devices weren't multi-client.

With 7.4 and higher they were multi-client, but that did not include Pro Tools. If Pro Tools was running, it had exclusive use of the hardware, but you could run multiple apps through the hardware if Pro Tools wasn't launched.

With the new beta drivers, they're fully multi-client, including Pro Tools.

002 and 003's have always been single-client, but the new beta drivers give them multi-client capabilities.

7.4 brought Vista compatibility to work with the new Windows audio driver model. I've been using the line out on the computer into 7/8 for the last couple years. Its it never even occurred to me to try anything other than one app.

A multi client driver is definitely progress

....but there is no 8.0.4b for PTMP is there, as internal M-Audio cards have full W7 support.
