How would you do this....

Hi Everyone,

Here's what I've got going on..... Ok, I'm working with midi files, some of which are a bunch of contemporary smooth jazz tunes which were professionally sequenced (not by me) by a professional studio engineer.

I'm fairly new to Pro Tools and also just recently, crossed over from Windows to Mac.

I used to use Sonar and it's synths, which were decent, as well as Sampletank and Native Instruments synths. Bounced the midi to audio which was pretty quick (non real time) and then mixed the audio files with some good audio plugins.

Now.... really love Pro Tools and the RTAS plugins that I've purchased, McDSP, for use with PT. I also have Waves and UAD-1.

I'm not familiar with the synths in Pro Tools but, I hear they're great!

I'm not sure what's the best move.... Here are my ideas...

I could continue to set up the midi in Sonar, it's real easy, and also take advantage of the really quick midi to audio bouncing and then........ import the wav files into Pro Tools and then mix the audio files in Pro Tools (which I think is way better sounding than mixing in Sonar) with the better raudio processing plugins.

Or.... should I set up my midi in Pro Tools, which to me, seems more complicated, and utilize Digidesign's soft synth's and their sounds and then bounce or route the midi to audio in Pro Tools, I'm not sure how it's done.....I can't seem to grasp the way to do it....... and then mix the audio with the audio plugins.

What do you all do?
..... or what do you think I should do based on your knowledge and experience in Pro Tools?

I personally am not a fan of pro-tools MIDI implementation. So I would use your first option.

Bounce in sonar and then mix in pro-tools (that is what it was designed as, a virtual tape machine).

Bouncing MIDI controled software intruments is easy to do in protools though. Just create an instrument track, select instrument, write MIDI part, select area to bounce and then bouce to disc as WAV. or similar.

External MIDI intruments are recoded like any other audio track (from the external MIDI instuments audio outputs to protools audio inputs)

You can have the best of both worlds and have your Sonar trigger your MIDI plugins in Pro Tools and then just print them to Audio tracks.
