Default iMac G5s going for 1k now

Just wanted to give Mac-sters the heads up on some new pricing on the iMac G5s. I just purchased three 17" 1.6Ghz for a little over 1k from the refurb department at the online Apple store with free shipping. www.apple.com . So far they have been working great without any fan noise issues that some have been getting. I have six of these iMac G5s now and they are the cat's meow! Mine are all virtually silent. I use these for the business network. I haven't noticed a big jump in speed over the last G4 1.25 Ghz iMac I bought so still thinking the G5 is alot of hype. These screens are Beauuuuuuuuuutifulllllllllll.
Anyone using them with PTLE yet and how are they running?

There's a recent thread with people using them successfully with PTLE. Try a search or page down to a week or so ago.

As far as the performance goes, I think it makes more difference (G4/G5) when you get into heavy floating point operations such as convolution reverbs, CPU-instensive softsynths like the CS-80, and the number of voices you can get on software samplers. I don't remember the specifics, but there was a review in Sound-On-Sound about a year ago which compared the number of plugins you could get with a dual 1.25Ghz G4 vs the dual G5 2Ghz. It was (don't quote me) something like 3-4 Altiverbs on the dual G4 and something like 20 on the dual G5. Those numbers may not be 100% accurate, but that was close to the relative difference in performance they noted. The performance difference was definitely way more than the processer speed difference (Ghz) alone.

PT 2021; MacBookPro M1; 16GB; Spectrasonics; Native Instruments, Toontrack, Waves...too many plugins.

I seem to be having performance issues with my IMAC G5 1.6 1 GIG RAM running an MBOX with PT LE 6.4. I will be replacing my 1 G Stick of RAM to see if that helps. I have 8-10 tracks open with 5-8 plug in's and get a CPU Holding Off USB Error Message. Something doesn't seem right.

If you're recording to the internal drive, disable journaling, in Disk Utility.
Quad 2.5 G5, 4.5G RAM
