Default Logic and PT sharing the same interface

I use both Logic and Pro Tools. Sometimes I use Logic for arranging and building the song and PT for the final Mix. Now, I tried opening them contemporary. They both are addressed to my Apogee Element 88 interface: even if it seems to me strange they appear working without problems. Are there any shortcoming? It seems strange that they can share the same interface, but it works for now....
I'd like to know some opinions about it

If you are able to use the Apogee Element 88 simultaneously with both Protools and Logic, then it seems the Apogee driver is multi-client. They do boast about their robust drivers so this is probably true. If it is working, go for it. As for shortcomings, I would only mention that Protools traditionally is very finicky about sharing the audio interface. It like total control. Often with most interfaces with single-client drivers, it demands exclusive access. Given this tendency, Protools may not play nice while sharing the interface with some functions. You'll just need to try it out and see how it works.

As OD mentioned, your interface has multi client drivers.

I will add that my interface has multi client drivers and I run everything through it at the same time, including PT with zero issues. Pro Tools, system audio, Izotope RX etc. All running together. No problem.

YMMV, but I have always had good results.

Pease Sardi, can you tell me if you have to download a special driver or the standard one already works as multi client?
Tank you so much

I don’t have the same interface as you. My comment was more directed towards confirming that multi client drivers have worked fine for me running multiple apps in conjunction with PT.

If you’re currently able to use the interface with more than one app at a time, it is multi client. No need to download anything else. Just keep on working.

That's the answer of Apogee Support:

"If using the same sample rate in both DAW's this can be possible.
But if using different samples rates in the two programs, a conflict will arise that can cause audio performance issues so that it will not work properly"

Well… that would be a given. Using different sample rates in 2 different apps with the same hardware isn’t going to yield positive results.

IOW - don’t do anything silly and it will work fine. =P

This is something fairly new to those of us running Avid HD hardware
But I think it is a great feature .

I don't run Logic But I do run both Studio One and Reason and can have either one open with PT I don't know of any "shortcomings" per se
I simply click on the GUI window of the one I want to be playing through my system sound
