Re: Mavericks
Until Avid blesses the OS, we can all just try at our own risk. I myself installed Mavericks and found out PT no longer talks with my HD3 hardware. So whether I use PT10 or PT11 it is only Mac Pro built-in output, nothing more. Can't blame Avid though, as the system is not yet supported.

Re: Mavericks
Updated my MacBook AIR, has copies of most of my studio apps and plugs here. Trashed all the PT prefs beforehand.
I'm liking PT 11.02 a lot, as someone else observed, very snappy & positive with many of the updated AAX plugs and VIs now. Ran up a big demo session with much audio tracks & plugs - fine. Same for a big VIs-only session. PT10.3.7 on the other hand, no way. Has lost its Shoe for starters & won't even run up. (Doesn't especially concern me though, have pretty much dumped PT10 now). PS, Of course, this was only out of general interest & the MacBook does other work. I'd certainly leave my Mac Pro studio workstation alone until Avid approved. Elsewhere there are notes about AAE errors etc and I can only imagine this might be a bucket of unnecessary trouble when tracking etc. Last edited by profdraper; 10-23-2013 at 03:04 PM. |

Re: Mavericks
I know its enter at your own risk, but i dived in. I have sevral backup images of course. I must say it seems snappier in everything. I very impressed! So far no problems at all on both my systems (see below). I now it's not approved yet but Pro Tools 11.0.2 is working just fine Hardware, plugins and all.

I've found that, if I run up PT11.0.2, close it and then start PT10.3.7 it finds its shoes. Maybe it's wearing eleven's? |

Re: Mavericks
Curious if there are any real advantages for PT on Mavericks whatsoever.
Set aside the new features in it like maps, tabbed finder and such.. For PT itself, will there be any performance-based advantages to running 10.9? On PT 10? On PT 11? The app nap and compressed memory features seem like trouble rather than advantages to me. Perhaps it can be turned off in the code? Any real insight? Would be good to know for all of us I am sure... Avid? Any devs that can comment? Thanx |

Re: Mavericks
Any real advantages would depend on the users system(s) and it's maintained-health.
A system with issues will remain a system with a new OS and issues. A system running fine with work being done should have no need to change. For Pro Tools specific the only jump-out addition for me is: For those with multiple users or monitor stations i.e. Console-engineer, music workstation-composer (On the side in the same control room) The finder menu's on all monitors is handy, The downside is you need to log-off/on to engage or disengage this feature. (Vs. going to the Monitor control and dragging the Finder-menus to another monitor) 11.0.2 & 10.3.7 (Installed in OS 10.8.5) continues fine here. This is my test system with 10.6.8/10.8.5/10.9 separate and backed up boot drives. The Avid warning should be noted and read for details of concern!

Re: Mavericks
Thanx DetroitT
I have tested it on a carbon clone and it runs just fine here too. On the surface identical to 10.8 ML. More specifically, in planning for future upgrades are any of the new "advanced technologies" that Apple are touting with 10.9 potentially any good to a PT user in any way at all? deeper pdf: http://images.apple.com/media/us/osx...y_Overview.pdf I guess Timer Coalescing and Open CL makes me curious if OSX can do things better and faster when doing things with VI:s and streaming libraries if devs choose to support those technologies. Ah well, it's early days and time will tell I am sure... |

Re: Mavericks
Please anyone having a "working fine" or "not working" system on 10.9 post your interface specs as well!
For example, I have a HD3 installed on Mac Pro, and PT10.3.7 nor PT11.0.2 will recognize the hardware.
