Default PT MP 8.0.5 on Win7/8

Just wondering if anyone has had any success running PT MP 8.0.5 on Windows 7 or Windows 8. I'm upgrading my hardware and OS and I'm not sure I'm ready (financially) for a PT upgrade as yet. Thanks all! Jon E.

OK, no replies, I'll take that to mean that I am the guinea pig, which is OK. I will post back with results and findings as I go. Thanks! Jon E.

Running MP9 here. Can only say that 8.0.4 and above is (was) officially supported on Win7.

I used ProTools M-Powered 8.0.5 on Windows 7 x86 for a long time and it worked quiet well... some weeks ago I've installed Windows 8 x64. For some reasons I don't know, the installation process is always interrupted. First a specific folder directory can't be found, if I choose it manually, installation stops some steps later because of an error of iLok-recognition. Don't know what to do... As a student I don't have the money to upgrade for about 200 €, I don't need the rare new features either.

Any advices what I can do? I'm happy with the new OS and don't want to go back to Win 7.

Actually the sound architecture did not change in Win 8, so I don't understand why installation is not possible. All other programms I have, seem to work well in Win 8 except ProTools... Please help

Results are in, I got PTMP 8.0.5 with MPTK2 to run on Windows 8 x64 relatively painlessly. I ran my own off-the-cuff D-Verb test, (7) stereo D-Verbs on 48 stereo channels (total 336) before hitting the 85% CPU limit I had set (got to about (8) on each channel (total 384) with the CPU limit maxed at 90%), H/W buffer was set at 128 samples. Had some trouble loading Structure and Hybrid due to known (but not to me...) Iexplorer conflict, but found the fixes on the Avid support site and all is well. Glad to share details with anyone taking the plunge, hats off to Digi/Avid for allowing PT to run on new OS's, it didn't used to be that way. My system specs below. Thanks. Jon E.

Right! It was Win 7 and it worked without any kind of problems, are you shure not using 64 bit OS? Because as I found out it works only under x86...

PT 8 is not officially certified for x64 Systems, so either you should install Win7 x86 or upgrade to PT 9 / 10...

None-the-less, I have PTMP 8.0.5 running on Win8 x64, and running pretty well I might add... I saw your earlier post, if you are having problems loading PT try removing your audio interface and iLok, as well as all the (non Win8 x64) drivers, load PT and then reinstall your interface, drivers and iLok. This might do it for you. If you are trying to upgrade your Win7 install to Win8 I think you're asking for trouble. Do clean Windows and PT installs, ground up, will save a lot of headache.
