Default Re: issue with Atmos re-render downmix controls

Thanks for posting this, Marti! Very great and simple way to describe what's going on. I was actually looking at some of your talks discussing Atmos and was wondering if you adjust settings in the Trim & Downmix section of the Dolby Renderer depending on if it's theatrical or broadcast/streaming. Seems like many folks don't do the downmixes through the renderer, but instead using the final 7.1.2/7.1.4 mix. Many of my projects live in a very fast turnaround so doing it all in a single bounce is very useful.

If you want ultimate control, down mix with Spanner followed by Stemcell to catch overs and manage everything else. You get complete flexibility, can automate it all, and there's zero chance of clipping caused by downmixing in the renderer (which has no limiters!)

Indeed. I think I met you at NAB at Avid Booth last week! Mr. Webster!
If it is you, so appreciated your time sir!

Also have you checked out Immersive Master Pro which just had and update a few days ago? It's very cool and also has batch processing for a number of file types. https://www.immersivemasterpro.com/videodemos

I really really wish that the Dolby renderer had limiters built into it, especially for the downmixes it creates. Having built-in limiters would be so immensely helpful.

Thanks for the shout-out with Immersive Master Pro. I'm the product director and we're assessing the market demand for adding limiters (and adjustable integrated loudness targets) on re-renders. If you have a moment, tell me more about your workflow needs. We're working on the 2025 roadmap now.

Of course. I was in on this product months ago and on the webinar you had with Dolby and you and I chatted there! Send me a contact for you so I can reach out if I need to via my email.

Limiters inside the Renderer would be helpful for multiple reasons. One being that Objects bypass aux tracks and go right into the limiter, so currently every object track needs its own limiter within Pro Tools which is a bit of a pain for a very object heavy session.

But more importantly is limiters within the Renderer would help with downmixes and overs much easier. I can get the Atmos session within spec using the limiters within Pro Tools, but if it's a heavy surround session, the 5.1 and stereo fold downs may go over peak limits.

Currently it's a two step process to bounce downmixes, you either offline bounce and then import into a PT session and apply limiters separately. Or you do a live re-render to a PT track with a limiter on it.

Ideally I'd love to be able to bounce all my re-renders right from the renderer (or ADM) and know that everything will be limited properly, without having to do a two-step process or mess with creating custom downmix parameters to stay on spec. Internal Renderer limiters that could be set to whatever spec is needed would make all of the above so much easier.
