Default verifying DMI Pool data....new build pc hangs

in the process of putting together my allen/phil hybrid XP2700 and after hooking up fan, HDDs, floppy, mobo, etc, I powered up. First error was floppy wasn't recognised, so I checked cables and switched it w/ my wifes Dell 3Com. Now it reads the floppy drive

sys setup popped up and I set the date and time. noticed it was reading XP1800+...Only other change I made was cranking the cpu external frez mhz fromm 100 to 166. then saved to CMOS. then another screen popped up and it hung on verifying DMI Pool data...blink blink blink, so I pwrd down. rebooted and it pops up saying I have an XP2700 at 2.1k, but now I have a "WARNING CPU have over speed" so i go in and crank the 166 down to 166. save. reboot and now it says I have an XP2100 at 1.7k. All the same it just hangs on the verifying....I put the Win XP cd in to boot up but nothing happens. Suggestions?

I am going to post in the Under $900 thread as well to save history of not only buying bare bones but also newbie builders errors...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Sounds like you need to update your bios to the most current one. Go to www.asus.com and download and flash to the most current version to run this new processor.
