Default eleven rack expansion pack usefull for death/thrash metal??

hey,
i´m wonder if it is a good investment to buy the expension pack to get some new fat metal rythm sounds?

I was a bit disappointed to see no new mods of the classic metal amps like 5150 or engl...basically i don´t need new effects or experimentation, but the EL could have more metal rythm sounds i think.

what´s up with the bogner mod of the expension pack? useful?

for now, i always used the soldano mod and tubescreamer mod with a vht 50/50 tubeamp to get a heavy sound.

what did you think? buying or not?

thanx

IMO it does death/thrash metal stuff very well, may take a bit to get the sound you are after but its doable

You should be able to get some very good death/thrash tones, try the Bogner and the DC modern SOD

I would have LOVED to see a 5150 or Engl also....but they did give us the DC Modern SOD, and it is KILLER!

I posted a soundclip of a rig I made using the DC Modern SOD and my Ibanez 7-string. And with the graphic eq or the new parametric eq, you can definitely dial in a more dark and brutal sound if you like...

My gut feeling is the SOD model is based off the 5150. I could be wrong but it has a lot of character of that amp to my ear.

It does sound VERY similar. I have a 5150, and I plan on making a rig to try and cop the sound of it.

I think (in some thread around here) Chris said it was loosely based on a Marshall JCM 800 or 900 but they totally tweaked it out.

Maybe C&C can confirm what it was based on.

That would be absolutely great. If you so though please post something so I don't miss it.

Thanks Mike.

And I think metal can be acheived by throwing the new "Distortion" pedal in front of any amp . I decided on a whim to throw it in front of the SOD and the damn floor started shaking - I was scared it was an earthquake .

The Custom Modern Super Overdrive (SOD) is loosely based on a Dual Rectifier/Soldano circuit. Has a really tight and deep low end, a smoother high-end, and numerous other tweaks.
