Default Uninstall PT to install 2021.3

When trying to install 2021.3, I get a message telling me that PT must be uninstalled before proceeding. When I close this window, it tells me to install later.

WTF?

Windows 10
Pro Tools 2020.12

I just posted a thread that may be similar to yours. No solution for you, looking to get an answer.

Alternately, to uninstall PT on Windows 10, right-click Start>select Apps and Features>Near the upper right corner, click on Programs and Features>allow 30-60 seconds for the list to load>right-click on Avid Pro Tools and select Change. In the next window, if you also see the option to remove the HD driver, DO select that option(no matter what hardware you have). Even better is to also remove prefs and database, etc so your next install will be "cleaner". After an uninstall, I usually run CCleaner on the Registry and clear out any orphaned links and such.

One more tidbit: While all thru windows 7, we were instructed to run the installer using the Run as Administrator option, with Windows 10, it seems to be better to NOT use that option(and just run the installer with a double-click).

Remember that if you delete prefs and database, etc, you will need to restore your preferences, Midi Studio setup and IO setup(using guitardom's Trasher app allows you to save and restore all those settings quickly)

Sure there is. Uninstall your old version, install the new version. You have the option of JUST uninstalling PT and the HD driver. I just did exactly that a couple of days ago, and was up & running, with all my preferences intact, in about 15 minutes.

In Add Remove Programs, Pro Tools refused to uninstall in Win10 on my machine.
I had to do the appwiz.cpl command, which can confuse the process.
My rig kept my prefs, but as soon as I opened a project from an earlier version, Pro Tools started bogging down, so those prefs got deleted.

I, too, was befuddled by this, especially since I could not simply uninstall. I had to use the second workaround using the command prompt. But seriously, is this what we pay an exorbitant subscription fee for- so we have to use a command prompt instead of letting the Avid Link handle it? I miss the days of Digidesign where I felt they actually CARED about ALL of us.

Review my instructions earlier. That works perfectly on Windows 10. BTW, Pro Tools is not the only software that refuses to uninstall in the first window.
