If you're asking whether the Superdrive will burn audio CD's the answer is yes. We do it all the time. It seems to burn audio mixes fine.
Hope this is helpful. |

Thanks for the replies. I guess I should be more specific. I know that the Superdrive will burn audio CDs, but some drives seem to do a better job of this than others.
I spent a lot of time finding a drive/media combo (QPS Firewire/Mitsui gold) that was dependable. There are 3 main issues: 1. How often do disks fail to be successfully burned? This has never been too much of a problem. 2. How often do disks fail to meet the standards of replication plants. I haven't had much of a problem with this either, but it's probably ultimately the most important issue. 3. Are the disks created able to be played on as many players as possible in the real world. This is the biggest issue. I know that no burner/media combo will create a disk that can be played on every player out there, but my experiments showed me that there is a big difference between different lines of blank media, and that it's important to match the media to the burner. Has the Superdrive held up well in these regards?

1. Using sony Supremas CD-R media, no failed burns except when operator error.
2. Never in over 2 years. 3. No compatibility issues with modern players. Hope this is helpful. |

1. Choose "Burn Disc At Once" in Toast prefs 2. Burn at the slowest rate you can afford. If you are making a Master for a plant I suggest 1x. Andy |

Where,
Thanks for the info. It sounds like I won't need my Firewire drive when I get my new machine. Andy, Definitely Disk-At-Once is the way to go. I use Jam, which is DAO only. There seems to be a bit more debate about the best speed. Some say burn at 1X, some say burn at 2X, some say burn at the fastest speed your burner will support. For example, Digi's documentation for Masterlist CD recommends using the fastest speed available. At various times I've subscribed to all three theories, and I've had no problems with replications of masters burned at 1X, 2X, and 8X. The biggest factor seems to be correctly matching burner and media. Cheers

By the way, the Superdrive does not support CD Text. If you want your CDs to have the name of the CD and each track's name come up in the display of the CD Player, you need something else.
(Yamaha CRW F-1 w/Waveburner Pro) Although not OS X yet, Emagic is owned by Apple so I assume (there I go again) it will be soon. John Zumwalt Stephan SpringsTheatre.com
