Midi Footboard Expression Pedal (CC 11) and External Footswitch Mutally Exclusive?

Hi,

My Art X-15 Ultrafoot MIDI pedal board has 2 rocker pedals, one of which I have assigned to CC11 (for expression). This is very versatile and convenient; I'm impressed with the options for assigning controls per patch in the 11R editor. However, it seems that when I plug in a foot switch into the external pedal jack, I can no longer use the Expression assignments--even though the expression control is coming from MIDI in. Am I missing something here, or is this...um...a "feature?"

Anyone? I'm not sure why I can't use my MIDI Expression Pedal--going into the MIDI In on the 11R, and set to CC #11--and the footswitch jack at the same time.

I have the Exp. Pedal set up for MultiFx, but it seems to lock me out from simultaneously using the dual footswitch mode.
