MotherBoards
I am wondering, what is the best MB P4 2gig for the 001? I like ASUS products.
Thanks, RDOG |

Re: MotherBoards
There's not a whole lot of information about building P4 Digi 001 systems. It seems that everyone is building Athlon systems for the Digi. And for good reason... The Athlon systems FAR OUTPERFORM the P4 on Pro Tools LE.
I chose to build a P4 system. I too like Asus products. I built my system on their P4B266 board. It was troublefree to set up and runs quite well, though the Athlons still run circles around me! If you want to go with DDR SDRAM on a P4 system I would absolutely recommend the Asus P4B266. There is also the P4B which supports regular SDRAM. Or you could use one of their other boards that support RDRAM which might outperform the SDRAM boards. I have yet to see any evidence that RDRAM improves performance over DDR SDRAM though. I don't personally think you can go wrong with an Asus board. I've been building computers for several years and Asus has never let me down! Just make sure that you get a board with a Digi supported chipset. Intel 845, 850, or 860 are all that are supported by Digi for the 001 with a P4. Mike

You can overclock the board to approx. 2.2 GHz (be careful !) Excellent performance, although waiting for PTLE for XP to be able to use all of the 1 GB RAM (instead of 512MB).

Re: MotherBoards
Hi,
These 2 below are RME's 2 reference PCs. So i would think that they would work well with audio. Actually, they do NOT recommend Athlons for their sound cards since Athlons chipsets can be problematic. We worked it out here on DUC but it was not easy. So here are the recommended P4 setups: http://www.rme-audio.com/english/tec...c/refp4std.htm http://www.rme-audio.com/english/tec...c/refp4pro.htm
