Default Level matching problem

I use the lightpipe from the adatbridge to an adatcard in my yamaha 03D.this works well for track laying, but as soon as I start mixing and raise the master level, say around-2dB ,the input(channel 1-2 from the adatcard)starts clipping, indicated by the tiny meters on
the 03,and also in the monitors. It's gets even worse when I do prepare a CD master with really hot levels(-0.02dB).My solution
is to use the analog outs from the bridge and going into the analog stereo in on the 03.
This is unpractical and not representative to hear what is going on.PT5.1 with 16 bit sessions.Adatbridge 16 bit.
Tips please.
