Default BOOT FAILURE

I am using protools digi 001 5.3.1 XP. I recently upgraded to XP and it was runing fine. It froze during playback and gave me a DEA error message. I rebooted the PC and it did not boot back up. It says BOOT FAILURE insert BOOT diskett in A drive.

Can someone please tell what I need to do. Its searching the floppy, CDROM, IDE-O, SCSI and all are saying not found. Am I in trouble of losing my recordings and files? What happened?

If you can't boot in safe mode it looks like two things.

1. Boot sector corruption... in this case you might be able to restore a boot sector from a previously saved backup if your HD uses a formating utility that allows this function. (like western digial I believe).

2. Hard drive failure..... what can I say.... bad news..... everything lost unless you want to send it too a data recovery service. Had this happen to me recently with a Maxtor drive. One of a long history of Maxtor drives failing with me. Lost everything that wasn't backed up. %^$& happens.

Do you have another drive in your box? If so, you MIGHT try to install on OS like XP on that drive and see if your screwed up drive can be recognized by the other. If so if you can transfer the session data to another drive (within windows) even though the OS can't boot on the original drive. I do this. (keep an os installed on my other drive.) Saved a session lately.
