Default $250 for ProTools 9 ???? = Wtf Is Avid Smoking

First and foremost I created this thread title/shocker because it was how I felt at the moment. Now please listen to what I have ti say.

Pro Tools 8 Le was the most expensive upgrade DigiDesign ever had. I saw the benefits and upgraded. Now we see another update and it is even $100 more than before ( $249 ).

From my initial read the main attraction is being able to use a 3rd party audio interface. That's great, but what about the current customers that own Digi hardware and choose to upgrade?

In my opinion Digi Hardware owners should not have to pay this ridiculous full price.

The only way we can make a change is by speaking with our wallets and making noise on forums such as these publicly. Without this, things will never change.

Who will stop Avid from charging $349 for Pro Tools 10..... $449 for Pro Tools 11......

You see where I'm going here.... In this tough economy clients are looking to save money, yet our tools are costing us more?

PT9 is earth shattering in the LE world. If you can't make $250 out of this software, the nerve-center of your studio, you're in the wrong biz. This upgrade will cost you about .10 cents per hour or less.

Charming post.

You're absolutely right, Avid should send us an economic relief subsidies check for $1000 with this upgrade.

PT9 is not an upgrade. It is a new application.

Don't forget about ADC, Timecode, MP3, export and import options and integration with the Euphonix controllers, among others.

This is not the full price. The full price is $599. You can't "stop" it. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

If someone is using PT to charge for audio production, $250 is nothing if the company is successful.

The announcement of PT9 and its 249.00 upgrade price may be more important than the actual introduction of PTLE a decade ago.

Its a new product. LE and MP are dead. 249.00 is a lot cheaper than 599.00.

just sit it out for a while if the $250 is too much for you to justify right now. You will eventually see ilok licenses for PT9 for sell for cheaper. It is more expensive, but they did include more features than ever before too

First off, I am not, by any means, complaining about the price. It is more than reasonable. I also realize how big a deal this would be for many people. However, I'm trying to determine if it would be very advantageous for my own situation. I have a 003 Factory and no need to use 3rd party hardware. I have the expansion packs, so already have extra tracks, mp3 option, etc. Although I do bring in small amount of money through my studio, it is mostly for hobby/personal use.

Would I still find this upgrade to be valuable? I don't mind the price tag. Just wondering what advantages I would see. Is it likely to work better with my Win 7 64-bit environment? From what I understand, it's basically still the 8.0.4 32-bit code. Is ADC the only real feature I am going to gain? Will that one feature be worth it? Just curious for anyone's thoughts on this. Thanks.

How about the guy who bought an Avid product last week?

I got the Eleven rack unit, came w/ PT 8,...the upgrade for me?..($249)

Honestly,..I think guys in this situation should have gotten a small grace period for a discount upgrade. There were all kinds of mentions of this being announced (grace period) at AES however,....I got a "NO" from Avid sales so,..

It is what it is,.a New product,...while I have to scratch my head at that lack of grace period,...I did pay the 250. so life goes on,.
anyway,.I'm enjoying PT 9 a lot.

If someone asked me a month ago if I would pay $250 to upgrade to a release that had ADC as well as being able to use a third party interface I would have never believed such science fiction.

I'll gladly pay it. They listened to what we wanted and I will reward them with my money.
