Default Toolkits and up/crossgrades

This one goes to Avid but I appreciate the info from anyone.

Studied the FAQs and my logics tell me to get PT9+Complete toolkit 2 functionality this way (when starting fresh):

1. buy the old Mbox mini (with PT8), or any other former generation mbox 2
2. buy DVtoolkit 2 (free crossgrade to PT9 included?)
3. upgrade to Complete toolkit 2

FAQs says:

Q: I recently purchased one of the toolkits; am I entitled to any free upgrades?
A: Yes. If you purchased and registered any toolkit on or after October 4, 2010, you are eligible to receive a free crossgrade to Pro Tools 9 software. If you registered your toolkit purchase within this timeframe, you’ll automatically receive an email with a free activation code and link to download Pro Tools 9.

I was mainly thinking about "this timeframe" - where does it end?
Am I missing something?

Thanks

Actually this is a good question.
You can purchase the MBox2 Mini für 159 Euros now (at least in Germany). If you receive a free crossgrade then, you save nearly 100 Euros!

Yes

I was thinking
Mbox mini, 159 euro
DV toolkit 2, 1099 euro
CPTK, 350 euro

= total about 1600 euros

Since I already have an MBox2, I could even sell one of them, for say 100 Euros. Then all in all I would have payed 50 Euros for the crossgrade.
That would be pretty neat, but I'm afraid, Avid is aware of that and "this timeframe" ended with the release of PT9. Just guessing, though.

Ok,

The Mbox should work with PT9. I would verify with Avid about the driver. I would recommend getting an I/O that has 8 analog outputs. MOTU makes great interfaces that are affordable an work with PT9. This way you can utilize the surround option (if you have the speakers).

If you can find a toolkit at an authorized retailer then you would get the free crossgrade to PT9. You would have the toolkit and only need to pay the upgrade price.... keep in mind the total you will spend between the toolkit and upgrade before you purchase. It may be easier and wiser to just get the CPTK2 so you have support and future upgrade options...if they come out.

I have a RME Fireface 400 which I would use with PT9. Mbox mini could serve well as an interface on my second computer.

I think my plan should work and be quite a lot cheaper than buying without the upgrade paths. But if I'm missing something, then it will be really expensive.

Look what I found:

If I buy a Pro Tools LE system now—or just purchased one—am I entitled to a free crossgrade to Pro Tools 9?
A: Because Pro Tools 9 is a new Pro Tools product and not an upgrade version of Pro Tools LE, we will not be offering any free crossgrades to Pro Tools 9.

So I went completely wrong. Free crossgrade is just for a toolkit purchase - like you originally said. I got it confused and pointlessly aroused, sorry.
