I'm trying to improve the speed, control, and general efficiency of my home setup. I have an AGP Graphix G4 w/ 1 gig Ram, 2 external firewire storage drives, 1402vlz mixer, AMT8, Digi 001. I use PTLE and Logic.
For speed, I plan on upgrading my current CPU by installing another G4 processor chip. This way, I can still boot into OS9 if need be-not the case w/the new line of G4 'puters. Probably be working in X anyway, but the upgrade will also save me money over getting a whole new CPU. I was considering Mackie or Logic control - but it doesn't seem like the Mackie control works in Logic or the Logic Control in PTLE. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I was also considering the 002, but it looks like it's quite proprietary and wouldn't work with Logic. Again, any info on that point would be much appreciated. Looked at the EZBus for a space-saving 'all-in-one' solution, but I don't like the limitations-no visual overload indicator, just fading error messages; only 2 channel audio at a time; doesn't support OMS in OS9; No make-up gain in the compressor. Also looked into other 'all-in-one' solutions, like Tascam US428, but it doesn't have a preamp (just XLR inputs), and sliders feel cheap. Checked out other control surfaces that would be good at home and on the road: Baby HUI, JLCooper CS32 (maybe a little TOO small). So, I've landed on the Motor Mix. It claims to be a good controller for all platforms (PTLE AND Logic). Additionally, I'm planning on assembling a portable rig. I've decided on a modular setup for flexibility (take whatever lightweight pieces I need when I need them for travel-instead of being stuck with one heavy piece). Here it is: new laptop (17"), Emi 6/2m (already have it), Audio Buddy (already have it), a keyboard controller like Radium-one that has sufficient controller knobs & sliders. With this setup I can always bring the Motormix with my laptop if I need more control. I'd really like some feedback from someone. Does this seem like a good decision? Is the Motormix good control for PT AND Logic-especially in X? What does the MotorMix weigh can't find answer anywhere)? Is it true that the other surfaces will not work with both PT + Logic? Will the 002 only work w/PTLE? On the subject of the 002, is it true that digidesign will offer an upgrade cost for 001 users? Finally, I'd like to know opinions on if this modular solution is wiser than something like the EZbus or Tascam US428, from people who have experience with any or all of the products I've mentioned.. Much appreciated. Peter |

Also, take a look at the M24 made by Mixed Logic. (www.mixedlogic.com). It has 24 motorized faders and dedicated EQ & Compressor sections. It is compatible with all major DAW's (in your case Logic & Pro Tools). Definitely worth a serious look. 24 faders!!! |
