So, at my studio we've got some really old sound files that appear to be Sound Designer I format, not Sound Designer II. Converting from SDII is pretty easy, but I can't find anything that'll recognize SDI. Any advice? Most of my google searches turn up stuff related to SDII...

How do you know they are Sound Designer files?
Recovering audio from these files should be simple as they are mono, restricted to 16-bit and are big endian so all you need to guess is the sampling rate. Once you know this you can use any editor that will open raw data to recover the file contents.

I know they're Sound Designer files based on Finder. Usually, SDII files show up saying "Sound Designer II" under File Type, and they'll open up in Pro Tools, Soundminer, and SoundGrinder (which I've been using to do batch conversions). I've had a couple broken SDII files which I ran through a utility that repairs the fork header. With these Sound Designer files, the format shows up as "Sound Designer", and they basically won't open up in anything I've tried so far, between all the previously mentioned tools, VLC, and Quicktime.
I'm not familiar with the raw data editors you're talking about, though...would that be like a text editor? |

Audacity can import raw data. You set the number of channels, depth, endianness, and rate and Audacity will open it as such.

Looks like Barbabatch can do it:
http://www.audioease.com/Pages/Barba...filetypes.html Don't know how many files you need converted, but I own BB. Message me if it's not too big a job.
