Default PT 8 install doesn't load 002 drivers

I have tried a few times to load PT 8 and once it worked and then I restarted the computer and now everytime I try and start PT's it says it doesn't see my 002? Any ideas.

Also, When I open up an old 7.4 files it takes for ever for the system to load the session and sometimes locks up. Does 8 re convert the audio or something?

I'm using xp pro service pack 3. A Intel Compe with 2 AMD Opteron Processors 248, 4 gigs of ram.

Sounds to me like a corrupted install. I would use the uninstall utility included in the PT8 package(disconnect the 002 first) and uninstall Pro Tools, reboot and run the installer again. Connect the 002 only when the setup asks for the interface to be attached, and continue the install(making sure to ignore the "new hardware found" popup). You may have done it all correct but many have missed some little detail that causes problems. PT8 loads my old 7.4 sessions fine and there should be no conversion going on.

Yes, what he said, and… Check your plugins. It has been been reported more that a few times that outdated and incorrectly authorized plugins can cause this.

Digi,

Whats the deal. I've read all over and it seems that the Download version is missing or is haveing a hard time loading the 002r Hardware Drivers. Can you post a link to them so I can place them where they need to be so I and many others don't have to keep installing and uninstalling with no luck.

The download version isn't missing the drivers - if there's a problem during install, it's not because of the installer (at least not in the respect that it's missing drivers).

Have you done all the optimizations in the General Troubleshooting thread before installing Pro Tools? Some people are reporting that having your unit connected, but not turning it on until the installer prompts you to will usually allow the drivers to be installed properly.

If you continue to have problems, can you please post a Sandra report?

I have tried with the unit unplugged and then only plugged it in and turned it on when the installer asked for it.

Not sure what a Sandra report is?

However whats strange is it actually worked once and then it froze up trying to load a 7.4 session. It hasn't worked since. So now I went back to 7.4.

Do you think the CS update will help?
