Default DAE error-9073 can\'t get audio from drives etc

hello, amazing folks you all are! to the chase:
I am running a new iMac G5 1.9ghz only 512 ram at the moment but will be expanding of course. Mbox original, PT7 and Tiger. LaCie external FW drive. here's the deal
I've been working just sweetly on a sound design (theatre: no video) project with minor glitches (SBOD on Save comand occasional but i think that has to do with energy saver, which is now off). Friday I uploaded 4 small Bird Songs obtained online and burnt to a disc on a PC (just some kinda dell or something) and then all of a sudden the next time i go to work, saturday, everything is fine until it's bounce time where I couldn't get it to bounce even 10 seconds of a single track without the DAE 9073 error. (the 9073 is an error that says "can't get audio from the drives fast enough", i trouble shot everything with a seasoned PT pro and nothing.
I lowered my buffer to 4 (after almost uninstalling/reinstalling which is a whole other question) and it seems content now, i even returned the buffer to default (2) today (sunday) and bounced a small file at 24/48 successfully.
What's my question? could those short files have corrupted something in PT7? how can something like that be fixed? what could be responsible for such a dramatic and sudden drop n performance?
I did the cs3 update but whatever, none of those fixes had been issues before.
thanks for any input. like i said things are working now but i have about as much confidence in my system as i do in our new prime minister! ( i live in Canada.)

I had this problem on my mbox1 with my G4 powerbook (1.5g/768mb ram/OSX 10.4 / 7200rpm ext. harddrive) after I updated to PT7.
I had to run dae buffer at 8 to get it to bounce, but it was hit and miss, sometimes it would sometimes it would'nt. Over the weekend I updated to cs3, and put my buffer back to 2(default). It seems to be working now. Time will tell!!

Regards,
Tim

thanks TIM, i have been fairly stable the last couple daysas well. really dumb follow-up Q: I sometimes forget to save my files ( i will learn over time, really) before I bounce and i have had a couple of staggering losses and near misses where the bounce fails and then simultaneouslly an SPOD pops up and i do a force quit, losing wherever i was at pre-bounce attempt. Does the computer like it better when the file is neatly saved away B4 bouncing to disc. does it make it easier to "parcel-ize" it while doing the Bounce? Do you Know What I Mean?

oh yeah, i also did the troubleshooting tip: trashed my PT prefs from the library and repaired disc permissions. but i'm still aprehensive about bouncing larger files. time will tell INDEED.

Had the same problem after updating to Tiger.

In the end I realized one of my plugins (SampleTank) wasn't updated to the latest version.

I went to the website, downloaded the new version, and have been problem free ever since.

Hope this helps.

What about plug-ins that came with PT? I never bought any plug-ins, rarely use them, and still get that darned error message.

I always press apple/s about every 5 mins or so, its just a habit I've gotten into since starting on protools, 7 or 8 years ago. I would definately make sure you save the session before attempting a bounce to disk. On the plugin issue, I have waves Ren Maxx and Masters version 4 which could cause me issues I guess. I tested an old 6.4 session of mine which had 26 audio tracks with assorted Ren Comps and EQ's, 2 stereo busses with Dverbs, 2 stereo busses with Digi Delays, 1 stereo buss with Ren reverb, master with L2. In 6.9.2 it ran fine and bounced to disk. I then loaded up the session so there was a Ren EQ4 and Ren Comp on every track, still ran fine and bounced to disc OK. Then I loaded PT7 and ran the standard session, ran fine but would'nt bounce. Then I ran the loaded session and ran into the cpu overload message. I then updated to PT7 cs3. The standard session ran fine and bounced to disc. The loaded session still would'nt run so I started taking plugins off. 4 plugins later it ran fine and bounced to disk. I would think updating to the latest version of waves would see a significant rise in my plugin count but I dont intend to. From my small amount of testing in this session I can run around 60 plugins, which in a real project for me I would doubt I would use half that. If I do encounter any more problems I"ll just go back to using 6.9.2 which was perfectly stable for me. I hope this message is of help.

Regards,

Tim

hi there all, i had this stomach dropping experience today: after spending 200 bucks to upgrade to 1.5 gigs of ram in my iMac G5 1.9 633 bus etc i could bounce some short tracks of about 8 tracks plus 3 aux's and it worked fairly well but in trying to bounce a file of 1-13 min TRACK of crickets for a sound design project i'd get the DAE -9073 after not even a minute...ONE TRACK. what gives???
