Default Midi controller stopped working with PT 11?

I have a M Audio Keystation 49es. It has always worked with previous versions of PT. But it seems to have stopped working with the most recent version of PT 11. I've read a lot of threads with people having similar problems with their m audio keyboards and PT11. I don't want to buy another one assuming it is broken if that one will meet the same fate. So what are some affordable options for a midi keyboard that will be for sure compatible with PT!!?

specs below.

Going by past recent threads it looks like you're still having problems with your keyboard. First thing I would do is to get a free MIDI monitor program like MIDI-OX and use that to see that if at least your keyboard is communicating with your computer. Also make sure that, if you're using USB to connect the keyboard, the keyboard is plugged into a working USB port. Windows turns off USB ports by default as part of their power saving regime. Go into Windows Control Panel and turn off any power saving measures.

Before anyone can make a recommendation as to what to buy tell us this - what exactly do you need the keyboard to do? Just to play in notes or also have controls that PT can read? As long as a keyboard is class-compliant (which essentially means it doesn't need special drivers) or has specific drivers for it, then PT should see it providing you have things set up correctly on your computer.

Hi! Thanks for responding! I used Midi OX to test the input of the device and it shows that the device is working just fine. I suppose that would mean the usb is also working.

I use the keyboard to trigger notes in protools. So I really jsut need the keys to work as midi triggers. Meaning when I open up a plugin like "Structure" and hit record, I should be able to play piano or drum beats or whatever by pressing the keys on the keyboard.

Does that help?

Have you set the keyboard to be used by PT? You should be able to do so from inside PT. The other thing is to set PT to use 'first selected instrument' in PT preferences (I forget the exact tab it's in). And once again make sure you have power saving for the USB ports turned off in Windows.

And, after you've turned off USB Power Management, make sure you've done all of the other Windows Optimizations recommended by Avid.

Also, make sure you plug the keyboard into the same USB port every time. If not, and there are drivers, you may need to reinstall them.

Yeah it's funny with Windows and USB ports; install with the peripheral on one port, move it to another port and it may not work. Universal ain't so universal

Yeah I did all the optimizations when I got this computer. Also there are no drivers for the 49es.

Oh also, I tried resetting the midi info in "peripherals". I went to the midi controller tab and chose

#1 Midi Controller:
Type: M-Audio 49es Keyboard
Receive From: M-Audio 49es Keyboard
Send To: none (my keybaord is not listed as an option here...)
# Channels: 8 (also no other options)

Anyone think I should try something else?

You do not need to set anything in peripherals or controllers if all you're doing is using the keyboard to enter/play MIDI notes.
