Axiom 49 in pro tools 12... frustrating

I cannot get the axiom 49 controller to work with pro tools 12. I am running 10.11.2 on a mac and for some reason pro tools sees the axiom but I have no sound. Peripherals are checked off, it is listed but no sound or any kind of response when I open an instrument track.
It works fine in pro tools 8 but now nothing, can anyone help
