Can you provide more details and/or reproduceable steps?

Does it make any difference if a session is open or not when you change the buffer?
What are your voice allocation settings when this occurs?
Is the problem repeatable with no plug ins in the system?
Can you confirm the model number of your chassis is either model P7R464 (current), or P7R464-D1 (discontinued)?

I am also having problems like yours. Any change in the Playback engine settings will cause a crash. I am running on a Magma chassis as well.

I did find the following. If I open a session in which all voices have been allocated to 1 DSP, the session runs perfectly fine. If the same session is saved (in another system) where voices are assigned to more than 1 DSP, and then I try to open that session and run it with more than 1 DSP, it crashes. If I am able to open it using 1 DSP, then it runs.

Also, it crashes without having to open a session. If I open ProTools and then try to change the Playback Engine to using more than 1 DSP, it crashes.

I don't remember having this problem with 7.1, but it sure is here with 7.3cs1.

We are unable to reproduce this. Can you provide more info about your system specs and steps to repro?

I had this crash with a session open, and 3 DSPs allocated for voices. I was not able to reproduce it when opening the same session after restart. It seems like a plugin problem in the same way the MDW EQ causes playback engine crashes. It is not the same type of crash as that though. With this crash you get no error message, you just can't hit "ok" in the PB engine dialog. I didn't get a spinning beach ball though. I had the DSP allocation window open at the time, and the DSPs where the voices reside were empty. Upon force quit of Pro Tools, the lights on the 192s were blinking.

When you're referring to the model number of the chassis, are you referring to the Digidesign/Magma chassis, or the Digidesign 6 Slot Expansion HD? I have the Expansion HD, not sure where to find that number though.

Found a MDW Plug-in on a hidden active track. It is only repeatable with the MDW Version 2 Plug-in
