Can't record in middle of session

This is what happened yesterday in middle of session:
PT ultimate 2021.7 HD on OS 10.15.7 with HD engine.(1 HDX card)

I was recording Comp Vocals (quick punch) alternating between 2 tracks when suddenly mid song I could not engage "record " on any tracks.
I tried creating a new track with the same result.


With the full band in the studio and the clock ticking I had to make a quick move
I restarted PT and changed the engine to the Hybrid version.
Still no go on the original tracks but I was able to create and record on 2 new (Hybrid) tracks.

I could have hit a wrong key on my Keyboard as I was working very fast .
It happened before in a previous 2020(1) version last year.
Both tracks were stereo to mono with the Townsend lab mic plugin
Pilot error?? PT bug?? plugin bug??

Did you have a valid input selected on the tracks that would not go into record?

Any chance you could have put all tracks into record-safe mode? Command-click on a record arm and it will go into safe-mode, hold Command+Alt and click, and all existing tracks would be put into safe mode. That would explain why a new track was ok.

Easy to check if the Tracks are Record-Safe. Are the Record buttons on the old Tracks grayed out?

Perhaps you accidentally toggled off QuickPunch? I think it's "Shift-Command-P" or the "6" on your numeric keyboard (mighty close to that "enter" key). The record button shows "P" when you're in QuickPunch.

Would have to see the session (or a screenshot of the edit page and transport bar), but I suspect JJ is right; it's fairly easy to accidentally change the record mode into something other than quickpunch and not notice it Also countoff modes, wait for note, external sync can all prevent/delay record. Any flashing lights in the transport bar?
