Default Covetous

Yo!

My band, Die Like Gentlemen (sludge metal, Portland Oregon) has been recording live in our rehearsal space over the last couple weeks to get a demo out soon. This track is called covetous. The lead guitarist uses my eleven rack rig with a Ernie Ball petrucci axe, he's on the right side of the mix. The guitarist/Singer is on the left and uses a Marshall mode 4 with assorted Schecter guitars. I'm the bass player in this band which is a step outside the box for me but I'm having a blast.

We are using a Tascam US2000 and cubase 5. This isn't really a keeper track but after listening we were all thoroughly impressed with the quality considering I have an assortment of cheap ass mics.

Tell me what you think!!!

Overall and listening on MBP speakers, I think the recording and quality sounds good. I can't put my finger on who this song (mostly vocally) reminds me of. I wanna say Danzig, but I'm not certain that's it. Nice.

If you're up for it, tell us a little more about your mic'ing and tracking process.

Thanks!

We rent a larger space in SE Portland in an old cement company building. The room doesnt sound amazing in fact, the walls rattle and make noise when I'm playing bass.

I'm using a set of superlux drum mics I picked up on eBay for $200 about 7 years ago. They are made of plastic. Instead of the overhead mics I'm using two Audio Technica AT2020s. I am using one of the superlux Tom mics on the rhythm guitarists cabinet. For the lead guitarist (using my eleven rack) we are micing him with a Audio Technica AT2021 and a $20 Audio Technica digital reference mic that picked up several years ago. The Singer insists on using his sennheiser vocal mic but in these vocal take he is overdriving the preamp which would sound good if it were analog.

In my last band I recorded everything for our double EP. We used click tracks and overdubbed everything. I'm really liking these live tracks a lot more.
