Help with 'old-school' Tangerine Dream sound???
If anyone could guide me in the right direction for obtaining (or approximating) within PT the following Tangerine Dream sound, that would be wonderful. The TD sound is from their 'Thief' soundtrack (circa 1981) and kicks in within the following link at approximately 2 minutes and 10 seconds into the track. It's hard to miss.

To re-create it, it might help to know what VI's you have to work with.

Re: Help with 'old-school' Tangerine Dream sound???
I was hoping to use the VI's native to Pro Tools. I also have the V4 virtual analog collection from Arturia but don't even know where to start. Thought I would ask here.
Thanks again.

Re: Help with 'old-school' Tangerine Dream sound???
You might be able to do it with Structure using one of the strings sounds with a faster attack. Play with the attack envelope a bit to give it slightly softer attack, like you can hear on the TD track. Then, play with the filter and such to get the tone you want. Maybe some EQ, then add some delay and reverb, and I think you'll be pretty darn close. You may also find a good string like sound in Xpand that could work as the basis to build on. Good luck!

Is it possible to run a Windows only plugin within a Mac in an application like Pro Tools? The reason I ask is because I would love to use the plugin I mentioned in an earlier post within this thread to help with obtaining some TD sounds.

You could probably with some work replicate what the plugin does in a standard arpeggiator. |

Don't forget that PT has a step sequencer built into the MIDI editor.

Re: Help with 'old-school' Tangerine Dream sound???
Thanks for all of the helpful replies. I really appreciate it.
I was told by a close friend of mine who I inquired with as well regarding this topic, and, he suggested that the DAW Ableton Live is more appropriate than Pro Tools...as it has a more sophisticated step sequencer and arpeggiator built in. I am not familiar with the DAW Ableton Live. Any thoughts on this? Thanks again.
