Feet and Frame with 29.97 Timecode Ruler
I did a test with FCP - created a 29.97 NDF sequence, brought in a slug, burned in both a timecode window burn (set to 29.97 NDF of course) as well as a Feet+Frame window burn set to 35mm (project settings in FCP set to 35mm 4 perf). I then exported the video (DV codec) and imported the file into PT. PT's timecode rate is set to 29.97 NDF and Feet/Frame is set to 23.976. Both the main counter and sub counter are on. However, the feet frame ruler burned in the video does not match the feet frame ruler in PT.
Is this technically possible? Or does this mean that one can't receive a 29.97 video with a Feet/Frame window burn on it at the same time? I did a secondary test with the FCP sequence set to 23.976 - window burn set to 23.976 and F/F set to 35mm 4perf. All checked out perfectly in PT. Dead sync. Could anyone shed some light on this? Furthermore, anyone have a "cookbook" for burning in Feet+Frame in FCP? Thanks! |

Re: Feet and Frame with 29.97 Timecode Ruler
It's still out of sync, unfortunately. Am I right to assume that Feet+Frame cannot be used with 29.97? 23.976 FPS TC and 23.976 F/F sync perfectly fine.

Re: Feet and Frame with 29.97 Timecode Ruler
Maybe. Is it in sync with 29.97 drop frame?

Nope. Not in sync with 29.97 DF.

Re: Feet and Frame with 29.97 Timecode Ruler
Have you tried re-defining the session's current feet and frames position to the same as the movie's F&F burn-in and see if the numbers hold sync? ie: go to Picture start and define the the current position as 0+00.

I brought these in to Pro Tools. Both the 23.976 QT and 24 QT are in dead sync with the main TC counter and sub F+F counter. Obviously, I had to change the Feet+Frames rate to match the TC rate. Perfect. However, BOTH the 29.97 DF and 29.97 NDF QT movies are troublesome. The TC burns matched the main counter in PT perfectly (for both QT movies). The F+F counter in PT was no where near the F+F burn in the QT file. And yes, I tried to set the "Current Feet and Frames position" for both. Still no love. I'm beginning to conclude that F+F and 29.97 DF and NDF don't like each other very much. Anyone? |
