I'd give you results on my 500 Mhz Ti Powerbook/Mbox with OS X but I can only record one track for about 5 seconds before I get 9136 errors. OS 9 works well. I'll see what results I get with it.

I just installed Logic 5.5.1 and I'm anxious to see if it performs better than PTLE with OS X.

It would be nice Allen, if we could get a sampling of DaveC scores to follow your post. Anybody with any of these comps willing to join in the survey?

hey alan and anyone else interested in that amd notebook. might want to put it on hold

#1 it's no made by prostar...this is that company's name for it. it's actually made by ecs, but I think that could be better.

#2 the company that I listed to buy it from seems pretty shady. they have like literally 10 different companies with different names. check out resellerratings.com and look for pronetsale.com someone posted the many companies they work under.

the good news.

since it's made my ecs it is available at other places. micropro.com might be the best.

i hate notebook shopping!

OK, here are Davec scores for my Powerbook.

Config:
500 Mhz TiBook
512 MB RAM
20 GB internal system drive
120 GB Maxtor FW external drive (7200, Oxford 911)
OS 9.2.2
Mbox
Pro Tools LE 5.2.1

Results (HW Buffer samples/# tracks):
256/8
512/8
1024/11

I might be able to squeeze a bit more out of it by tweaking the amount memory allocated to PT but I don't think I'll bother.

Surf,
Thanks for those results. Is that a brand new Tibook? I'm not that familiar with this series.

It's one of the first series of TiBooks. The new ones have much faster processors and I'm sure they perform much better. Mine was made before OS X was released.

I finally got PTLE 6.0.1 working with OS X after I trashed all the files Digidesing recommends you trash when things are not working well. I had to set the buffer size to 512 samples - I prefer to run at 256.

I also installed Logic Audio 5.5.1 (OS X) and it appears to work much better on my TiBook. I think I'm going to like Logic.

I'm assuming the 'Ti' in TiBook stands for titanium. So, a G4 Titanium Powerbook?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">yeah, that's a pretty old powerbook. the new ones are 1gHz w/ up to 1gb RAM (the 17" is, that is).

Yes, it's an old one - about ready for retirement. I'm thinking of what to do next:

Windows or Mac?
Pro Tools or Logic?
Desktop or laptop?
All of the above?
Some of the above?
None of the above?

I've been a long-time Mac user and I love OS X. It's so elegant! And Unix. But I'm also impressed with Windows XP. It appears to be a good OS for audio work.

I just started using Logic so I don't know whether or not if I like it better than Pro Tools.
