Default Pro tools 11 cannot initialize audio device

Could really use some serious help with this.

When I was running a Hack I had ZERO issues with PT 11. Then I had to install Win 8.1 on my machine and wave bye bye to OSX.

Interface is a UR44. I can run Studio One & Cubase 7.5 without issue. But when I try and run PT 11...I get that "PT cannot initialize the audio device." UR44 has newest driver, updated firmware. I've even moved the cable to different USB ports on the computer.

I uninstall PT 11 & go to 10. It runs horribly when it doesn't lock my whole system up.

Gigabyte Z77-DS3H motherboard
i7 3.5 with settings set to keep it at 3.5.
16 gb ram

I just don't get it. Any direction would be helpful :)

Try holding down the 'N' key while PT11 is loading. This should force the playback engine dialog to appear, where you can reselect your interface.

Did that, dialog does come up. Changed to UR44. All should have worked. Tried to load up project and got the same response. "Pro Tools cannot initialize your audio device...."

Thanks for trying to help :)

Is the UR44 being used by something else in the system? Make sure it is not set as the default device in Windows otherwise PT can not take control of the device.

Also check to make sure the sample rates are set the same for both the device and the session.

And finally, I would default the IOs in PT for the device too.

Hope one of these works.

Junkgear,

Appreciate you taking the time to help. Same thing continues to happen. In control panel/sound I made certain the UR44 was set to not be taken over completely by any software.

Was wondering, I have Cubase 7.5 on here too. With the UR44 being a Steinburg device, could that make a difference?

Kinda flaying away now. I have 3 projects being held hostage by this issue lol

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Peace :)

You need to set your onboard soundcard or other soundcard besides the one you want to use for Pro Tools as the Default device for Windows.

Also, just to be sure, you have the latest ASIO driver for the UR44?

Cheers,

Can you track to Cubase, and then import the tracks into Pro Tools for editing and mixing, while you continue to work to get the UR44 to be recognized by PT? There is a solution to your issue, and you are getting good advice from those who have stepped in to help so far.
