Default 002r not in Sound Preferences

I lost my manual, can someone tell me what the red lighted button above the 1394 button means?

Also, just today I've noticed the 002r isn't showing in the Sound Output/Input preferences panel. I'm on 10.4.7.

Any recommendations on how to trouble shoot this? I installed the 7.0 stand alone core audio driver and restarted....

thanks

Above the 1394 indicator? 'Mute', it says on the front of the unit. It's to mute the output to the main speakers (outputs 1+2).

Thanks I see it says mute but when pushing it, nothing changes. And OS X.4.7 isn't seeing the 002r in the sound preference pane. It says it's not connected, HW not found, but it's connected...

I actually get that with my 002R too (using 10.4.2), but mine works just fine. It shows as 'Digidesign MBox 2' in the 'System Preferences' panel, for some strange reason. But, I've heard that's normal (not sure why). When I select it, I get this:

It seems odd that it can't connect, but hey, it works. I guess it's just one of those odd things.

turns out it's my damned power harness. this p.o.s.

I tried removing and reattaching the power harness wires a few times, nothing. Punched the damned thing, and it works again.

I know you've solved your problem now, but, do you, or anyone else for that matter, get why my 002R won't connect in the 'System Preferences' panel? It seems a bit odd, but I've never really questioned it until now, since the unit seems to work okay, albeit a few hardware drop-outs every now and again.

Is it a firmware issue, maybe?

Thanks,
onlyone-jc.

This is because the Mbox2 control panel is installed by Pro Tools by default. If you don't have an Mbox2 connected to the computer, it won't show connected in the Mbox2 control panel. You can remove the Mbox2 control panel by deleting it from MacHD>Library>PreferencePanes.
