Default beginner MIDI how 2?

hi i plan on buying EZDRUMMER when it is released. i have ZERO experience with midi. i have MBOX 1 and hope that i don't need to use an interface because i would like to write my own custom tracks. could someone direct me where to start reading so i can learn some ins and outs and practice a little before purchasing the new software.
thanks, bill

You don't need an interface, but it sure makes it easier. MIDI notes and velocities can be manually inserted using the pencil tool in Pro Tools. Details for doing so are covered starting on Page 418 of the Reference Guide. You can prectice inserting and editing MIDI, but without a sound module (i.e. EZDrummer) you won't be able to hear anything.

Yes, a USB midi controller will works just fine. Not necessary, but makes things easier.

The Reference Guide I am referring to is available from the help menu within the program. (It's also a link in my post above, you just have to click it to download it ).

All protools documentation is available for free from the Technical Documents page linked from the top of this forum. (or, again, by clicking this link i'm providing )
